International container terminal in the port city Ilyichevsk
The sea port of Ilyichevsk has been engaged into the international container transportation since 1971. At that time there were built two berths #5 and #6 for container transshipment and handling. The first container vessel that called the sea port was "Vasily Kucher".
The next important step was made in 1976 when a new container terminal was built for handling and producing containers of an International standard. Just from that time the Ilyichevsk sea port and its container terminal has been among the port leaders of the North-West coast of the Black Sea.
The increasing of container turnover made the port management provide a new reconstruction of the terminal which increased the terminal capacity up to 2.2 million TEU per year. The further expansion of the port, what is under the port rebuilding plan, includes a construction of two other terminals of 150 and 850 thousand TEU year capacities accordingly. The first terminal should be built closely to multimodal facility complex and the second near by the berth #22.
The made modernization of the port brought the terminal to an international standard. Three modern cranes of “Noell Fantuzzi Group” production are working simultaneously for handling containers in the terminal territory. The capacity of cranes lets to transship from 1200 to 1500 container units per 20 hours that makes 25 operations per hour.
