The Danish company MAERSK specializing on sea transportation of containers reduces speed of movement of the sea vessels for transportation of containers on transoceanic lines to reduce emissions of harmful substances in atmosphere and accordingly to save on fuel expenses.
The given reduction of speed of movement of vessels became possible after the company could reach the general mutual understanding with the basic companies-consignors of containers from the countries of Asia and Southern Africa. On this container service of court begin to go more slowly already from the beginning of the next year. The given initiative the company-carrier wishes to extend and to many other things the services connecting various continents.
Vessels for transportation of containers from Asia to Southern Africa will go for 2-3 days longer, with average speed of 14 sea knots, in difference from 20 as was earlier. Delivery of containers from Africa in the Asian ports, without dependence from a route of swimming of a vessel, will increase for 4-5 days.
Company MAERSK, also has informed, that according to the joint arrangement with the constant clients, speech about concessions on freight rates was not put at all, as consignors and so understand what to reduce rates under the freight for the company there is no possibility.
